WIP

An ongoing expanded music video project that
considers coffee as a spiritual, colonial and
revolutionary technology.

Ritual in Progress

2025

Performance at White Noise 50, Corsica Studios

This 12 minute sound work explored the theme of club ecologies by imagining Corsica Studios as a sound generating/expanding/modifying organism. By sampling sounds from different parts of the club ecology (the space, the speakers and the people), relational systems were connected and synthesised through techno rhythms, ambient soundscape and layered spoken word that evokes the interconnected nature of bodies and sound in the club.

CELEBRATION IS A FORM OF HEALING

2025

A drink and poem to welcome to visitors to the exhibition,
Kin-Aesthetic Mother Tongue, inspired by formative memories
of community congregations, including Iftar
(the breaking of fast during Ramadan).

Ceremonial coconut sharbat (vegan):
coconut, basil seeds, pistachio, almond, rose water, blue food colouring

KIN-AESTHETIC MOTHER TONGUE

2025

Inspired by the classic garage song:‘21 Seconds — So Solid Crew’, KMT translates the mathematical function ‘derivatives of displacement from applied physics into images, words and sounds.

Touching on the themes of traditional narratives, societal expectations, as well as the alienation and assimilation of Isma’ili diaspora (a Shia sect of Islam) at a time of designed misinformation, this expanded cinema project reflects on a complex history of South Asian migration and complicity within the colonial project as ‘an imported middle class’ in East Africa, to ask the question: what can one derive from displacement?

I’m Beginning to See a Pattern here, 2025

This work makes visible how Zish ritualises film-making
and world building through repetition and overlapping
of pre- and post-production processes.
Found images from 2001 and automatic drawing/writing
formulate a film language: an incantation, storyboard,
vignettes, ritual garments, objects and actions.
